Fulani "Bush" Outreach

The Fulani of Nigeria: They are nomadic, cattle herding people and live in what they call the “bush” or what we would call “woods” or the forest.  When attending one of our mission trips, missionaries will have the opportunity to visit a Fulani camp and interact with the people.  They live in houses that are made of pieces of wood and straw, with dirt floors and usually the children sleep on mats on the ground.  Because the majority of Fulani are Muslim, each man can have up to 4 wives.  All the wives live in the same area and raise their children together.  The women begin their work as early as 4:00 each morning.  They begin each morning by preparing food and attending to the children.  The men of the village have their own huts and love to sit around and chat with other men and work with the older sons to attend the cattle.  At night when it’s time for bed, visitors will be allowed to stay the night in the village, partake of the Fulani food and sleep in huts that are made by the women.  Men and women don't sleep in the same huts, but a male and female HELP interpreter is always there to interpret your questions and answers as you get to know this loving, caring people.
